The last time anyone saw Anthony Joshua actually fight a boxer was in 2024. Last year, AJ won an exhibition fight with Jake Paul, but tragedy struck a week later. There was an attempt on AJ's life and he survived, but his best friend and trainer did not. He decided to take some time off to sort through some things and deal with the grief that came within the last six months.
While he was grieving, a boxer by the name of Tyson Fury decided to call out AJ and told him that he respected him and want his last fight against him. AJ told him that hie was on his time and not Fury's. Both fighters had some back-and-forth banter, but you could tell that a fight between the two, could potentially happen, if AJ did what he was supposed to do in the ring.
AJ's tune-up fight was against Kristian Prenga. AJ had to overcome some obstacles as he was stunned and knocked down within the first 15 seconds of the first round. It seemed like AJ was going to lose because Prenga jumped right on him, but the lack of experience helped AJ. Instead of jabbing him, Prenga was throwing haymakers and was caught a few times. When AJ saw he had an opening, he stunned Prenga with a right hook, which took down Prenga. Prenga was hurt so bad that the ref stopped the fight in the second round.
Aft that fight, you could see the rust in AJ's fighting ability. It will be very interesting to see if the log awaited fight between Fury and himself will happen sooner than later.
