The New York Jets delivered a gritty performance Sunday afternoon, overcoming rainy conditions, costly mistakes, and a late deficit to defeat the Cleveland Browns 17-12 at MetLife Stadium.

Behind a career-best rushing performance from Braelon Allen, a strong showing from Garrett Wilson, and a relentless defensive effort, the Jets improved to 2-3 on the season while snapping Cleveland's three-game winning streak.

The Browns dropped to 3-2 after struggling to generate consistent offense against a Jets defense that came through when it mattered most.

Jets Strike First Behind Geno Smith and Garrett Wilson

New York wasted little time establishing momentum.

Quarterback Geno Smith orchestrated an impressive 80-yard opening touchdown drive, connecting with star wide receiver Garrett Wilson for a 32-yard touchdown.

Wilson showcased his athleticism on the play, spinning away from defenders before reaching the end zone to give New York an early 7-0 advantage.

The opening possession demonstrated the offensive potential of the Jets, but sustaining that production proved challenging as the weather deteriorated.

Cleveland responded with a 25-yard field goal from Andre Szmyt to cut the deficit to 7-3.

The Browns added another field goal in the second quarter, this time from 41 yards, bringing them within one point.

Despite offensive struggles, New York carried a narrow 7-6 lead into halftime.

Rain and Defensive Pressure Dominate the Middle Quarters

With wet conditions affecting ball security and offensive execution, both teams struggled to establish rhythm.

The Jets' offense repeatedly faced pressure from Cleveland's defensive front, while New York's defense made life equally difficult for Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Rookie defensive standout David Bailey emerged as a disruptive presence, consistently pressuring Watson and helping prevent Cleveland from establishing a reliable passing attack.

Neither team scored during the third quarter, setting up a tense final 15 minutes.

The Jets finally extended their advantage early in the fourth quarter when kicker Jason Sanders connected on a 54-yard field goal.

The successful kick gave New York a 10-6 lead and provided some breathing room in a game where every point mattered.

Browns Take Late Lead

Cleveland refused to go away.

With just over six minutes remaining, Watson connected with rookie wide receiver Denzel Boston for a 29-yard touchdown.

The scoring play gave the Browns their first lead of the afternoon at 12-10 after the unsuccessful extra-point attempt.

Suddenly, New York faced the possibility of another frustrating defeat.

The Jets needed someone to deliver a game-changing play, and Braelon Allen answered.

Braelon Allen Delivers the Winning Touchdown

With the clock approaching the three-minute mark, Allen broke through Cleveland's defense for a spectacular 22-yard touchdown run.

The powerful running back fought through traffic before reaching the end zone, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Sanders converted the extra point, restoring New York's advantage at 17-12 with 3:01 remaining.

Allen finished with an outstanding 116 rushing yards on 24 carries and one touchdown, providing the offensive production New York desperately needed.

His performance was particularly important with fellow running back Breece Hall unavailable because of injury.

Jets Defense Seals the Victory

Cleveland still had an opportunity to steal the game in the closing minutes.

However, the Jets' defense delivered one final statement.

With less than a minute remaining, Bailey forced a fumble from Watson, allowing New York to recover the football and effectively end Cleveland's comeback hopes.

Smith took consecutive kneel-downs to run out the clock, securing a hard-fought victory.

The defensive stand capped an afternoon in which the Jets limited Cleveland to just 200 total offensive yards.
