Jarvis Green out but look out

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney confirmed that redshirt sophomore running back Jarvis Green will likely miss most of the upcoming season after undergoing foot surgery. Swinney expressed his disappointment, saying, “The only serious injury we’ve had is Jarvis Green. He’s going to probably be out most of the year. We had to do surgery on his foot, so he’ll have a chance to come back at the end of the season. I hate that for him. I really do.”

Green, who appeared in just two games while redshirting in 2023, played in nine games last season despite battling injuries. He rushed for 53 yards on nine carries, averaging six yards per attempt. His breakout moment came in the College Football Playoff loss to Texas, where he caught two passes out of the backfield, including a 25-yard touchdown—the first of his career.

Swinney also mentioned the possibility of Green receiving a medical redshirt, stating, “We will just have to see how it all goes.”  Wish him a speedy recovery.

This unfortunate situation should open up more carries for highly touted freshman Gideon Davidson.  As a runner, he is violent, similar to Packer's pro bowl running back Josh Jacobs, but with greater burst and fluid cuts.   With his natural hands and ability to play in a passing game or where he is spread out, he can perform well in those situations.

Davidson's aggressive running style and versatility could provide a dynamic boost to Clemson's offense. His ability to break tackles and gain extra yardage will be crucial in sustaining drives and creating scoring opportunities. Moreover, his skills in the passing game will add an additional dimension to the team's play-calling, making the offense more unpredictable and difficult for opposing defenses to contain.
