Jacoby Jones, a former Texans and Ravens player, died at 40.
It was with great sadness that the Baltimore Ravens learned that the Super Bowl 47 hero Jacoby Jones tragically passed away just three days after his 40th birthday, bringing them unimaginable heartbreak.
Jones spent three years with the Ravens, but it was his first playoff run that made him a legend in the franchise. He caught a 70-yard bomb from Joe Flacco with less than a minute left in the Divisional Round game against the Denver Broncos, tying the game. As a result, the Ravens knocked off the AFC's top seed in double overtime to win the game. It was just weeks later that he scored two massive touchdowns in the Super Bowl. One was a 56-yard pass from Flacco, and the other was a 108-yard kickoff return, which helped Baltimore win its second championship in franchise history. His kickoff return still remains the longest touchdown in Super Bowl history.
Jones, a native of New Orleans, was drafted by the Texans in the third round of the 2007 draft. Jones also played for the then-San Diego Chargers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He ended his NFL career with 2,733 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The outpouring of love from Jones' loved ones on what has been a day of nothing short of tragic events is a testament to how special he was. Former teammates and everyone else paid tribute to Jones by sharing memories of him. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the memories he left behind especially in his community in New Orleans.
