Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Tuesday afternoon that LSU junior guard MiLaysia Fulwiley has been named to the 2026 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watch List.
Among the 25 collegiate players on the list is Fulwiley, who has developed her defensive skills since joining the LSU program in the offseason. The SEC is represented by 12 of the 25 players on the list.
This season has been Fulwiley's best yet, as she averages 14.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists a game, making it her most productive season yet. On the defensive side of the ball, Fulwiley has accumulated 24 blocks and 71 steals in 21 games played. Her 71 steals rank first in the Southeastern Conference and rank ninth nationally. The Columbia, S.C. native averages 3.3 steals per game, second in the league and 13th in the NCAA.
Her impressive defensive performance highlights her versatility and impact on the court. Fulwiley's ability to disrupt opponents' plays and create turnovers has been a key factor in LSU's success this season. This recognition underscores her growing reputation as one of the top defensive players in women's college basketball.
