On June 20th, 2025, Dodgers Dreamfields, an organization dedicated to give families safe havens across Los Angeles, in conjunction with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundations (LADF) and Bank of America (BOA), celebrated the groundbreaking of a refurbishment project for Dreamfield #68 at Nickerson Gardens in Watts, CA. Dodgers Dreamfields offer a safe place for youth to engage in positive recreational activities within their own neighborhoods, providing children and their families with functional green spaces they can take pride in.

Dreamfield #86 is located in Watts, CA, a neighborhood within the South Los Angeles region, bordering the cities of Lynwood, Huntington Park and South Gate. The area gained notoriety for the Watts Riots of 1965, which showcased social and economic issues in the community. To this day, a large percentage of residents live below the poverty line.

A major transformation is planned for the sports property in Nickerson Gardens. HACLA is intending to enhance the hardscape areas surrounding and connecting the proposed youth baseball/softball field after the football field is completed. LADF then will renovate the baseball/softball field by installing synthetic turf, prolonging its playability for years to come. The existing fence with be refurbished, keeping in place the existing poles and adding new mesh. Fencing will be added to the sides and the outfield which will fully enclose the field for safety. Finally, a new sign and solar-powered scoreboard will also be installed.

The finished project is scheduled to be unveiled in the latter part of the year, providing a fun, educational and a community resource for local youth and families to enjoy for years to come.
