Diamondbacks Suffer Devastating Shutout Loss Amidst Concerns Over Corbin Carroll's Shoulder Injury

The Arizona Diamondbacks endured a nightmarish outing, outmatched in every aspect, as they fell 9-0 to the New York Mets in Thursday’s game. The game's outcome pales in comparison to the health concerns surrounding outfielder Corbin Carroll, who left the game due to a shoulder injury. The Diamondbacks faced one of their worst nights this season, leaving fans anxiously awaiting updates on Carroll's condition.

Despite being outhit by a staggering 17 to 4 and outscored 9-0, the focus swiftly shifted to the status of Carroll. The Diamondbacks' rookie suffered a shoulder injury in the seventh inning that caused legitimate apprehension among the team and its supporters.

Furthermore, this defeat extends the Diamondbacks' losing streak to four games, marking a rare occurrence in the 2023 season. The loss also delivered their first sweep of the year, in the hands of the New York Mets.

The struggles began with starting pitcher Ryne Nelson, who endured a rough outing as he was hit hard by the Mets' potent lineup. The game started on a sour note with Pete Alonso blasting a rocket home run with two outs in the first inning. The Diamondbacks struggled to regain their footing as the Mets continued to pile on the runs.

Francisco Lindor, in particular, showcased an outstanding performance going a perfect five-for-five at the plate, including two triples, two singles, a SOLO home run, and three runs. Francisco Alvarez continued his hot streak, hitting a home run for the third consecutive game. Pete Alonso also contributed with his 26th home run of the season. Their stellar showing stood out amidst an otherwise disappointing performance by the Diamondbacks.

Carrasco, three-for-three, delivered eight impressive innings on the mound, allowing a mere three hits and preventing any runners from advancing beyond first base.

The injury to Carroll and the subsequent bench-clearing incident were additional setbacks for the team. However, these incidents seemed inconsequential compared to the mounting concerns over Carroll's shoulder injury. The hope remains that further assessments will bring positive news surrounding Carroll’s status.

While this single game can be seen as an anomaly, the Diamondbacks will look to put it behind them as they aim to bounce back in their upcoming matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates. There is still an opportunity to reverse the recent slide and finish strong before the All-Star break.
