Could Canelo Alvarez potentially fight Caleb Plant next?

Vegas- Following his dominate win against Billy Joe Saunders, Canelo Alvarez holds the WBO, WBC, WBA, and Ring magazine titles. The only thing left for Alvarez to do is fight the undefeated Caleb Plant.

Plant is 21-0 with 12 knockouts. He will be the closest thing to Floyd Mayweather Jr that Canelo will have to face. Plant is a very technical and defensive fighter just like Mayweather. The only difference between them is the speed. Mayweather is known for his quick moves while plant is not.

With a record of 56-1-2 (38 Kos) Alvarez has no slowing down in his future. While he has claimed almost every belt he can in his division, why not fight Plant now? Alvarez does have a disadvantage when it comes to height. Alvarez stands at 5’9” while Plant is 6’1, which could cause a problem if the fight happens. Alvarez would have to find a way to overcome Plant's reach.

Mayweather promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said during the Mayweather Vs Paul conference that Canelo cannot beat Caleb. “He can’t beat Caleb because Caleb has all the wrong things from him, trust and believe that.”

This could potentially be the fight of the year,if it happens. Both boxers have moves and styles that counter the other. Alvarez is more of a power puncher, while Plant is more technical and defensive style fighter. This is the fight the fans have been dying to see. Two great boxers in the prime of their careers. Why wait? This is the perfect time to make this happen.

According to Eddie Hearn, the target date would be September 18th at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas.
