Braves trim Spring Training roster, finalize Opening Day squad.

The Braves have seven spring training games left. That’s a lot more than the number of current players in official spring camp that remain to be cut from this roster. In today's move, the Braves have reassigned Drake Baldwin, Chadwick Tromp, David Fletcher, Andrew Velazquez, Luke Williams, and Eli White to minor league camp. There are now 28 players in camp for Atlanta.

It was possible that David Fletcher, Luke Williams, or Eli White could have made the Opening Day roster. Fletcher appears to have been replaced by Luis Guillorme at this point, and unless something outside the organization happens or an injury occurs, he will probably be the backup infielder on Opening Day. Adam Duvall's signing may have affected Eli White. However, now he’ll head back to minor league camp and then Triple-A Gwinnett. Luke Williams seemed like he had a decent shot at making the roster just because he exists.

There wouldn’t be much concern about cutting him to make room for anyone else, but the Braves aren’t moving in that direction. That leaves Forrest Wall and Guillorme as bench options. Angel Perdomo and Penn Murfee are apparently among the 28 players in camp for the Braves. This means the roster is essentially final — again, pending something happening with players outside the organization, or injuries.

Aside from Duvall and Wall in the outfield, Guillorme in the infield, Reynaldo Lopez as the fifth starter, and Dylan Lee, Tyler Matzek, and Jackson Stephens in the bullpen, the usual suspects will round out the bullpen. Something will shake up this group of 26, but who knows what at this point. Keep your eyes open!
