Academy Museum Gala Raises Over $11 Million to Support Film Education and Preservation

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures celebrated its fourth annual gala, raising an impressive $11 million to fund its exhibitions, education initiatives, and public programming. This stellar event underscores the museum's commitment to making film education accessible to the general public and the local Los Angeles community, offering valuable programs such as screenings and K-12 initiatives.

Presented in partnership with Rolex—founding supporter and official watch partner of the Academy Museum—the gala highlighted the enduring relationship between the luxury brand and the cinematic arts. Rolex has been a steadfast supporter of the museum since its inception, reflecting its dedication to excellence in cinema.

A Night of Stars and Recognition

The evening, marking the museum’s three-year anniversary, was a star-studded affair honoring three luminaries of Hollywood for their impactful contributions to film. Co-chair Eva Longoria opened the event by introducing Amy Homma, Director and President of the Academy Museum, who welcomed guests to the special fundraiser.

Three-time Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg presented the prestigious Icon Award to Rita Moreno, the Oscar-winning actress, singer, and dancer, celebrating her remarkable career. Following dinner, four-time Oscar-nominee Saoirse Ronan took the stage to present the Vantage Award to her friend Paul Mescal, while Quentin Tarantino received the Luminary Award from longtime collaborator John Travolta. In a generous gesture, Tarantino announced the donation of his original handwritten script for Pulp Fiction (1994) to the museum, further enriching its collection.

The night concluded with a surprise musical performance by Cynthia Erivo, introduced by Ariana Grande, who delivered heartfelt renditions of classics from The Color Purple, The Wiz, and The Wizard of Oz, captivating attendees.

Awards of Distinction

The awards presented during the gala serve to recognize significant contributions to the film industry. The Icon Award honors artists with a profound cultural impact, while the Vantage Award celebrates emerging artists challenging cinematic narratives. The Luminary Award acknowledges significant creative contributions. Designed by the Haas Brothers and crafted by UAP, the awards are remarkable pieces of art in their own right, symbolizing excellence in filmmaking.

A Gathering of Hollywood Elite

The gala attracted a constellation of Hollywood's most notable figures, including Awkwafina, Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks, and many more, all coming together to support the museum's mission. The event was designed by Keith Baptista, with musical direction by Rickey Minor and culinary delights provided by guest chef Curtis Stone and Wolfgang Puck Catering.
