After losing Anothy Davis to the Mavericks to get their potential franchise face in Luka Doncic, the Lakers desperately needed to fill in his gap with another big man that could play both sides of the floor. Right before they decided to go after a big guy in free agency, there was a little speculation that LeBron James may not be coming back to Los Angeles. However, that rumor disappeared as soon as La decided to go after Deandre Ayton.
Now, there was a lot of mix reactions with Giannis still deciding if he was going to stay with the Bucks or leave, but mostly fans liked the idea of having a 16 and 11 player that can be effective on both sides of the floor. With Ayton on the floor, they could use more of a pick and roll rotation with Ayton, and he could score down low if LA needed a bucket. On paper, this could keep the Lakers in that top five seed in the West.
