Going into the semifinals, Team USA came into the game against Spain and knew that they needed to keep that momentum that they had against Hungary. A lot of the sports analyst had called this game a trap game., if Team USA struggled to find their rhythm.

For the first time in the tournament, Team USA got punched in their mouths out the gate. Spain jumped to an 11-4 lead. Turnovers were the key factors with Spain having an early lead, as Team USA turned the ball over three times in three minutes. After Coach Lawson decided to put the young and turnt unit in the rotation, Team USA went on a 10-3 run to take the lead, with Clark, Reese and Paige pushing the tempo.

Going into the second quarter, the offense for Team USA slowed down a bit. It seemed like it was more one on one ball play instead of going into their strengths, which was rotating the ball around and finding the open person. In this quarter, the refs were calling it tight, which put Phee on the bench with two fouls. Team USA ended the half, clinging toa 30-36 lead.

Coming into the second half, the emphasis for Team USA was to create opportunities for everyone and making sure that they protect the ball. They were 9/24 from the field and was 2 for 8 from the three-point strike. Team USA's offense was stagnant at times at did not really flow, like the previous games. Reese, Stewie, and Phee all had three fouls heading into the fourth.

With under three minutes left in regulation, Team USA went on a 10-2 run to extend their lead to 10 and eventually the run helped the blue, white, and red to escape the trap game.
