South Carolina women’s basketball star Joyce Edwards continues to establish herself as one of the nation’s premier players, earning a spot on the 2027 Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award Preseason Watch List. The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 20-player list on Wednesday, Oct. 28, recognizing Edwards among the top small forwards in NCAA Division I women’s basketball. The honor adds to the growing expectations surrounding the Gamecocks junior heading into the 2026-27 season.

Edwards enters her third collegiate season following an outstanding sophomore campaign in which she emerged as South Carolina’s leading returning scorer and rebounder. She averaged 19.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 57.1% from the field. Her scoring average ranked fourth in the Southeastern Conference and 30th nationally, highlighting her efficiency and ability to consistently produce offensively.

The Columbia native also made history last season, setting seven single-season program records, including 768 total points and 22 games with at least 20 points. She finished among the SEC’s top 15 in rebounding, offensive rebounds, steals and blocks, demonstrating her impact on both ends of the floor. Edwards is also just the third player in program history to earn All-America honors as both a freshman and sophomore.

The recognition follows Edwards’ unanimous selection to the Preseason All-SEC First Team, further reinforcing her status as a key piece of head coach Dawn Staley’s championship aspirations.

With her scoring, versatility and defensive presence, Edwards has the potential to become one of the most influential players in college basketball this season.
