Sloane Stephens shocks Coco Gauff in second round of US Open 6-4, 6-2

New York- Sloane Stephens defeats Coco Gauff in straight sets.

In a prime time showdown between Coco Gauff and Sloane Stephens, the match was filled with a lot of excitement. In the early stages of the first set, Gauff grabbed a 2-1 lead. She was doing a good job with keeping Stephens deep on the baseline and stunned her with a couple of aces. In the seventh game, you could tell Gauff was gaining more confidence and was winning her first serve percentage at 68%.

Things got a bit interesting late into the first set. Stephens won two consecutive games to take a 5-4 lead and for the first time in the set, Gauff had to face a little adversity. Stephens went on to take the set 6-4.

After losing the first set, Gauff got herself back in the game by going back to her bread and butter, which was making Stephens move around the court. Early in the second, Gauff had a 2-1 lead. Very similar to the first set, unforced errors by Gauff helped Stephens get back in the game and take a 3-2 lead in the second. Stephens' forehand serve was too much for Gauff as she went on to pull off the upset 6-2.
