The Los Angeles Rams kicked off their 2025 preseason with a 26-17 win over the Dallas
Cowboys, showcasing promising performances from both veterans and newcomers under the lights at SoFi Stadium.
Head Coach Sean McVay praised the team’s execution, particularly the ground game led by rookie running backs Blake Corum, Jarquez Hunter, and Cody Schrader.
“Our runners ran really hard… it was awesome to see those guys get chunk runs in a row,” McVay said.
He also highlighted the offensive line’s physicality, with Beaux Limmer and Justin Dedich excelling in both center and guard roles.Quarterback Stetson Bennett, making his preseason debut as QB1 with Matthew Stafford still easing back from a back issue, impressed with poise and command. Bennett connected with multiple receivers, including a key fourth-down strike to Xavier Smith, and avoided forcing plays—something he credited to increased maturity and comfort in the system.
“I thought it went pretty well… obviously there’s going to be things to clean up,” Bennett said, noting the mentorship he’s received from Stafford.
Defensively, the Rams made early stops, with standout plays from linebacker Chris Paul Jr. and versatile defensive back Josh Wallace, who saw time at safety. McVay also singled out rookie outside linebacker Josaiah Stewart for his pass rush impact.
For Dallas, first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer noted a slow start and costly penalties, but praised the team’s resilience in the second half.
Backup QB Will Grier provided a spark with a rushing touchdown, while running backs Phil Mafah and Malik Davis made strong impressions.
While the Rams still have roster decisions ahead, McVay said the energy and execution were a positive first step.
“A lot of guys made plays tonight, and it was cool to see how excited their teammates were for them.”
