The Los Angeles Rams wrapped up their preseason with a narrow 19-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns, but the performance showed plenty of positives heading into the regular season. Despite facing a Cleveland squad that kept many of its starters on the field, the Rams held their own, proving that their depth pieces can compete against higher-level competition. One of the storylines centered around it.

For the Rams, fourth-string quarterback Dresser Winn got extended work in this game, after they gave third-string quarterback Stetson Bennett the majority of snaps in the first two games. While far from perfect, Winn handled himself reasonably well against the Browns’ top defenders. He helped engineer a late 77-yard scoring drive. For a player fighting for a roster spot, that poise was encouraging.

Rams fans finally got a chance to see the second-round pick in this year's draft, tight end Terrance Ferguson, in action. After missing time earlier in camp, the Rams’ rookie finally saw meaningful preseason action—and he didn’t disappoint. Ferguson hauled in two receptions for 48 yards, showing off the athleticism and fluidity that made him such a highly regarded prospect out of Oregon. His ability to stretch the field and create mismatches. This can help the Rams’ offense be even more explosive during the season.

While the Rams came up short after a last-second Browns field goal, the bigger takeaway was development. Winn flashed growth, Ferguson looked ready to contribute, and the Rams’ backups proved they can hold their own against starters, no matter the caliber of opponent. That’s momentum worth carrying forward if they make this Rams roster or catch on with any of the other 31 teams.
