The Los Angeles Rams couldn’t have scripted a better start to their pre-season, rolling past the Dallas Cowboys 31-21. From the opening drive, it was clear Sean McVay’s squad came ready to set the tone. Two names stood out above the rest: Rookie running back Blake Corum and Quarterback Stetson Bennett.
The Rams’ first offensive series showcased exactly why the front office was excited to bring in Corum last year. After Bennett converted a 4th-and-5 with a perfectly placed strike, Corum capped the drive with a powerful 2-yard touchdown run, bulldozing through the Cowboys’ front. He wasn’t done — later in the first quarter, he found the end zone again, giving the Rams a commanding early lead and establishing himself as a red-zone force. His vision, burst, and ability to finish runs were everything Rams fans hoped to see in the much-needed depth piece for the offense.
After missing last season due to mental health leave, Stetson Bennett looked every bit like a poised leader ready to earn a bigger role. He played the entire game and was decisive in the pocket, accurate on intermediate throws, and even showed off his mobility when needed. Whether converting on key downs or orchestrating smooth drives, Bennett displayed the kind of command that gives McVay’s offense flexibility behind center if called upon, if Matthew Stafford or Jimmy Garoppolo were to miss time during the regular season.
If you are a Rams fan, you should be pleased to see these depth players showing their worthwhile getting pivotal snaps, even if it’s in the pre-season!
