The Los Angeles Rams opened their 2025 campaign in style, knocking off the Houston Texans 14-9 in an exciting Week 1 matchup at SoFi Stadium. From the opening whistle, Sean McVay’s squad looked prepared, energized, and eager to make a statement.
This game started and ended with the defense. The Rams didn’t allow a touchdown all afternoon, keeping constant pressure on quarterback C.J.Stroud, forcing him to stay on his toes. The biggest defensive moment came on the Texans’ final drive, when they showed signs of life and began moving the ball. Linebacker Nate Landman punched it loose from running back Dare Ogunbowale, and rookie Braden Fiske pounced on the fumble to seal the win.
On offense, the Rams did just enough to complement their defensive effort. While a bit rusty — understandable with Matthew Stafford nursing an injury all preseason — they capitalized when it mattered. Stafford hit a major milestone by eclipsing 60,000 careers passing yards, placing him among the NFL’s all-time leaders. He also connected with tight end Davis Allen for a 13-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Running back Kyren Williams scored the Rams’ first touchdown, finishing with 18 carries for 66 yards and a score in a steady performance to start the year. For McVay and his team, this win is more than just 1-0 — it’s a statement that the Rams are ready to compete in a stacked NFC West.
