Raiders relieve coach Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler of their duties

The Las Vegas Raiders have been absolutely dreadful this season. The team has shown a lack of energy, and the offense still remains the only offense that hasn't scored 20 points in a game. The Raiders are averaging 268.3 yards per game, which is better than only the Giants, and only 15.8 points per contest, which is better than only the Giants and Patriots. Raiders need a change, and that change came late halloween night with the Raiders firing head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. "After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave," owner Mark Davis said in a statement. "I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best." The tenure of the McDaniels Ziegler era was awful to say the least, tons of roster miscalculations and bad planning. McDaniels went 9-16 as the Raiders' coach, a step down from his 11-17 mark in 28 games with the Broncos (2009-10), where he was also fired halfway through his second campaign. The Raiders suffered tons of historically embarrassing losses under McDaniels. Last season Raiders blew the most 4th quarter leads while suffering losses to Jeff Saturday in his coaching debut and losses to the Rams with Baker Mayfield who was only with the team for two days on Thursday Night Football. The bad losses kept piling up and McDaniels quickly lost the locker room. Replacing McDaniels and Ziegler in the interim will be Champ Kelly and Antonio Pierce. Pierce is a former pro bowl linebacker and defensive coordinator for Arizona State before coming to the Raiders as a linebacker coach. The Raiders find themselves in a very familiar place looking for a new coach and general manager again which has been a theme for Mark Davis. In this instance this move had to be made with all the blunders of Ziegs and McDaniels. The other big decision the team made today was naming rookie fourth round pick Aiden O’Connell as the long-term starting quarterback. Raiders also named quarterback coach Bo Hardagree who is a rising young coach as the offensive coordinator. Raiders fired their other offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi. Raiders are still alive in the playoff race and we’ll see how these changes pay dividends going forward.
