Phoenix shows off their grit in OT victory

Phoenix- The Mercury won 89-83 in overtime and evened the series at one game each.

The Mercury dominated the Lynx in the final stretch, outscoring them by 14 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. The Lynx began overtime with five consecutive missed shots, while the Mercury executed crisp ball movement and precision plays. Sami Whitcomb continued her standout performance in the series, threading the needle with assists on Alyssa Thomas’ opening jumper and Kahleah Copper’s corner 3, which gave the Mercury a six-point lead with 1:47 remaining.


Courtney Williams broke a scoring drought that had lasted nearly four minutes with a clutch jumper. Williams grabbed a defensive rebound off Sabally’s missed shot, and Napheesa Collier’s smooth turnaround fadeaway jumper cut the lead to two points with 31 seconds left. Thomas was fouled by Alanna Smith with 21.7 seconds remaining and sank both free throws to push the lead to two possessions. In the final 12 seconds, Thomas added two more free throws to seal the win.


Satou Sabally led the Mercury with 24 points, while Thomas notched a double-double with 19 points and 13 assists.
