Naomi Osaka was upset by Jessica Pegula
New York- Naomi Osaka had no answer for Jessica Pegula and was bounced early out of the Italian Open 7(7)-6
In the first set, Osaka had a couple unforced errors, which kept Pegula in the game. After dropping a game, Osaka seemed to get herself under control and won two straight, which put Pegula on her heels. Osaka tried to keep Pegula in the middle of the court, but the speed of Pegula kept Osaka guessing the entire first set. Osaka lost the first set.
Osaka lost her confidence in the second set and had to fight herself out of a two game hole early on. Pegula's cross shot and forehand gave Osaka trouble and once again Osaka did not have an answer for it. Eventually, Osaka dropped the second set and Pegula advanced to the next round.
