Despite the loss, Wiggins had a great game against the Clippers
In a fiercely contested battle at the Chase Center on Sunday, Andrew Wiggins delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 29 points and draining five 3-pointers. However, his efforts were not enough to lift the Golden State Warriors, who fell to the Los Angeles Clippers with a final score of 112-104.
The game took a troubling turn for the Warriors when star guard Stephen Curry sustained an ankle injury. After initially hurting his left ankle late in the third quarter, Curry re-injured it early in the fourth, forcing him out for the remainder of the game. Despite the setback, Wiggins led the charge, helping the Warriors cut the deficit to as few as one point in a thrilling comeback attempt.
Wiggins had an efficient night, scoring at least nine points in three different quarters. He showcased his shooting prowess with a perfect 4-for-4 effort in the third quarter and capped his night with an impressive 11-point fourth quarter on 4-for-5 shooting. Overall, Wiggins finished the game shooting 11-for-15 from the field and 5-for-8 from beyond the arc, marking an early season high.
In addition to his scoring, Wiggins took on the challenging role of guarding the Clippers' offensive leader, James Harden. While Harden managed to secure a double-double with 23 points and 11 assists, he struggled from the field, shooting just 6-for-19, thanks in part to Wiggins’ defensive efforts.
The Clippers initially gained momentum with an 11-0 run in the second quarter. However, the Warriors fought back, largely due to the energetic play of newcomer Buddy Hield. Hield made an immediate impact, hitting a baseline jumper for his first home basket in Chase Center and later converting a remarkable four-point play after being fouled on a deep three-pointer. His play ignited an 8-0 run for the Warriors, bringing them within one point at 43-42.
Kevon Looney also contributed significantly off the bench, recording a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of play. His activity around the rim, particularly on the offensive glass where he secured five of his boards, earned him a spot in the closing lineup.
Despite Wiggins' heroics and the team's spirited effort, the Warriors ultimately fell short. With Curry's injury casting a shadow over their performance, the team will need to regroup quickly as they look to bounce back in upcoming games. As the season progresses, fans will be watching closely to see how the Warriors adapt to these challenges and how Wiggins continues to rise to the occasion.
