In a high-octane, emotionally charged main event on WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes reclaimed the WWE Championship for the third time in his career, defeating Drew McIntyre in a thrilling contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The match came after months of drama and intrigue, which all culminated in a hard-fought battle for the title.

The story of this match goes back to January when Drew McIntyre captured the WWE Championship from Rhodes in a brutal Three Stages of Hell match. The encounter saw McIntyre win two falls to one after a shocking interference from Jacob Fatu during the deciding Steel Cage match. As the cage door swung open, Fatu, a powerful and unpredictable force in the WWE universe, distracted Rhodes long enough to allow McIntyre to escape the match, sealing his victory.

Following that loss, Rhodes’ pursuit of the WWE Championship seemed futile. McIntyre, who felt invincible after his win, took every opportunity to taunt Rhodes and even interfere in his matches, making it clear that Rhodes would not be granted another shot at the title unless he could claim victory in either the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber.

Frustrated but determined, Rhodes pressed on, and General Manager Nick Aldis, who had witnessed McIntyre’s repeated interference, finally had enough. After the events of Elimination Chamber, Aldis announced that Cody Rhodes would once again face McIntyre for the WWE Championship, this time on SmackDown.

The stage was set, and the stakes were high. Drew McIntyre was determined to prove his dominance, while Rhodes, ever the resilient competitor, was out to prove that he deserved to reclaim what was once his.

The match itself was a back-and-forth affair, filled with near falls, intense counters, and displays of raw power. McIntyre appeared to be on the verge of retaining his championship after a dramatic referee bump disrupted Rhodes' momentum. Rhodes, desperately trying to seal the deal, called for another referee to replace the one who had been knocked out. But when the second official arrived, McIntyre capitalized with a vicious Claymore, leaving Rhodes barely able to kick out before the count of three.

In a moment of frustration, McIntyre then proceeded to Glasgow Kiss the second referee, further escalating the tension in the ring. With the situation spiraling out of control, McIntyre grabbed a steel chair, intent on ending the match by any means necessary.

However, the tide was about to turn. Jacob Fatu, who had played a key role in Rhodes’ earlier defeat, made his presence felt once again. Appearing on the apron, Fatu yanked the chair from McIntyre's hands, preventing him from delivering a potentially match-ending blow. The interference allowed Rhodes to regain control, much to the delight of the fans.

Seizing the opportunity, Rhodes hit a picture-perfect Cody Cutter, followed by his devastating finishing move, Cross Rhodes. He went for the cover, and this time, there was no escaping the three-count. Rhodes had done it—he had defeated McIntyre to win the WWE Championship for the third time in his illustrious career.

With the victory, Cody Rhodes not only reclaimed the title but also secured his spot in one of the biggest matches of his career. Barring any surprise title defenses in the coming weeks, Rhodes is now set to defend the championship at WrestleMania against his longtime friend and rival, Randy Orton.

The journey to WrestleMania promises to be full of twists and turns, but for now, Cody Rhodes stands tall as the WWE Champion once again, finally getting the redemption he so desperately sought. Fans will be eager to see how this story unfolds, as Rhodes prepares for the ultimate challenge against his friend-turned-foe, Randy Orton.

As we head into the biggest event of the year, one thing is certain: Cody Rhodes is back on top, and he's not backing down from any challenge that comes his way.
