Clemson lost their second regional game to West Virginia, setting up an elimination game for Kentucky. Clemson had previously advanced past USC Upstate in a close first game but struggled to maintain that momentum against the Mountaineers.
West Virginia, confident after a strong regular season, dominated early with a three-run first inning. The Tigers found themselves in a deeper hole after the fifth, trailing 4-0. However, they rallied in the sixth inning, with Cam Cannarella's two-run homer sparking a comeback. Jack Crighton added an RBI double, and Jacob Jarrell contributed with a sacrifice fly, tying the game at 4-4.
Clemson briefly took the lead in the seventh when Cannarella hit an RBI double, but West Virginia responded in the eighth with a two-out RBI single to tie the game. The Mountaineers then sealed the win in the ninth, scoring four runs on an RBI double, an RBI single, and two hit batters with the bases loaded.
Now, Clemson faces Kentucky in an elimination game on Sunday at noon. The Wildcats, with a 30-25 record, lost to West Virginia in their regional opener but remain a threat. Clemson must start strong to avoid falling into another early deficit.
