Going into the regular season, who would have thought that the Chiefs would be on the outside looking in with the playoff picture, while the Colts have been flying high as a team in first place in their division. Prior to the game against the Colts, the narrative for the Chiefs was closing out games. They were 0-5 in one possession games,

The Chiefs opening drive did not go as expected. Patrick Mahomes threw a pick at the seven-yard line of their own endzone. One play later, the Colts found themselves in the endzone, with an early lead. After the interception, Mahomes and crew got back to "Chiefs" football and ran the ball down the throat of the Colts. A Travis Kelce' touchdown was wiped off the board as the Chiefs were hit with a questionable offensive face mask penalty and was forced to settled for a field goal

The rest of the half was just a nightmare for the Chiefs' offense. Mahomes was sacked three times and was hurried quite a bit. They held the ball for eight minutes and only came with another field goal cutting into the Colts' lead to 14-9 at the end of the break.

Coming out of the half, the Chiefs wanted to minimize their penalties and wanted to score touchdowns instead of settling for field goals. The Chiefs' offense for the majority of the second half was stalled but life was installed midway in the fourth. Kansas City finally kicked the can and scored a touchdown on a K. Hunt one- yard TD to cut the Colt's lead to a field goal. With under a minute left, the Chiefs had three cracks to get into the endzone to take the lead, but Mahomes was sacked at the five-yard on a third and goal. Kansas City tied the game up to force OT as time expired.

After forcing a three and out, the Chiefs had the opportunity to close out the game with a field goal or a touchdown. KC decided to let K. Hunt gashed the Colts' defensive line with a couple of hard earn runs and cashed in on a 25-yard pass to get into field goal range. A few plays later, the Chiefs nailed the field goal to escape with a much-needed win. Mahomes threw 29 out of 46 for 352 yards, 4 tds, and 1 pick
