The fight for the number 1 seed and home field advantage between the 9ers and the Seahawks was prime time excitement. Prior to the game, George Kittle was activated to play, and Trent Williams was out of the line-up with a hamstring injury as well as Ricky Pearsall. With that said, the 49ers had the next man mentality and knew that their HC Kyle Shanahan was going to put his team in position to win the game with his playcalling. Let's head into the action of the game.
If you have been watching the 49ers this season, they have gone back to handing the ball to Christian McCaffrey and allow him to make plays. That did not change in this game. From their opening possession to the end of the half, San Fran was trying to establish the run but could not get CMC jumpstarted. Outside of CMC not really having much success, the 9ers' defense was getting chewed up and spit out by Seattle. At one point in the game, Seattle were gaining eight yards per rush. You would think the 49ers were down by a lot with Seattle having success by running the ball, but they got some crucial stops late in the second quarter and got the ball back and scored off a 48-yard field goal to cut the lead t a one-score possession.
Coming out of the break the 49ers wanted to establish the run and convert on third downs. In the first half they converted 2 out of 6. The second half for the 49ers was very similar to the previous two quarters. Brock Purdy was hassled, sacked and could not get his team in sync. Going into the fourth quarter, San Fran had only 25 yards heading into the fourth. San Fran's offense was dead all game long until Purdy hit Kittle for a 20-yard gain. That conversion jotted a spark for the 9ers, because a few plays they were in the redzone. Purdy tried to hit CMC on the flat route but was picked off by Seattle. That was the nail in the coffin as they were defeated by Seattle 13-3
Purdy finished 19 out 27 for 127 yards with 1 pick.
