The Met has elected a new and exceedingly well-accomplished trustee to its board — Away co-founder and Executive Chairwoman Jennifer Rubio.
The entrepreneur and investor, known for serving on Yahoo’s board of directors and former work on the board of trustees for the Whitney Museum of American Art, are enthusiastically welcomed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s board of trustees, just in time for the upcoming Met Gala fundraiser event this May. Co-chairs Candace K. Beinecke and Hamilton (“Tony”) E. James made the official announcement of Rubio’s newest position.
James and Beinecke have talked about what this moment meant to them, “We are delighted to welcome Jen to the board. A dynamic advocate for the accessibility of arts and culture, Jen’s keen instincts and focused vision will be a great asset to the governance of The Met.”
Born in the Philippines, Rubio’s enviable resume showcases work for brand name companies such as Neutrogena, Johnson & Johnson, All Saints and Warby Parker, where she previously worked as head of social media. Her philanthropic work with the Rubio Butterfield Foundation helps to support nonprofit organizations. Rubio boasts over 65,000 followers on Instagram alone and once credited “relationships” as the motivating forces in her life.
