There has been a lot of speculation that the 49ers may release the future Hall of Famer in Trent Wiliams, but nothing has been crafted in gold and silver. Despite Williams having a sub-par season to his standard, he was still a key to the 49er's playoff run
In a press conference today, GM John Lynch talked briefly about Williams and what the future may hold for him. “Well, what I'll tell you is that in recent weeks I've met with both Trent and with his agent, Vincent Taylor, and had really good, productive and substantive meetings. And so, here's what I know: Trent loves being a Niner, we love having Trent as a Niner and it's up to us to figure that out and to thread that needle. There are some unique circumstances in that we all know what Trent is as a player, how great of a player he's been. He's going to be 38 years old and so there's some things that go into that. But I think we're all on the same page and feel very positive about where that's going.”
Despite being 38, Williams has definitely made a huge impact and bought into the 9ers and what they were brining to the table on the defensive side of the ball. Even though, they were out-match in the divisional playoffs, the 9ers' defense kept them in the game before a crucial pick turned the game sideways. It will be interesting to see what Williams will do in the next couple of weeks.
