Texans get preseason victory over Pats, but a little concern about their starting QB

The Houston Texas are in another rebuilding phase, from top to bottom and they put a lot on the plate during the offseason. In the draft they felt like they have picked up a a good quarterback in CJ Stroud and put some weapons around him to see if this is what they need in order to build momentum from the preseason to the regular season.

Stroud got his first taste of NFL play as he was named the starter in the Texan's' first preseason game against the Patriots. Like most rookies, stepping onto the field their first time, Stroud looked a bit unsettled and uneasy In his first series, Stroud had a decent opening drive going until he overthrew his receiver, which ended in the hands of Jalen Mills of the Pats. The Pats capitalized off the turnover and scored on a 40-yard field goal to open up the first score of the game.

After the interception, things did not go well for Stroud. He couldn't really get into rhythm with New England bringing the pressure each down and if there were a glimmer of someone open, Stroud would miss the read. His day was finished at the start of the second quarter. Stroud finished 2 of 4 for 13 yards and 1 pick. Davis Mills was the next quarterback up and tried to give the Texans some type of offensive spark. Coming out the gate, he attempted a 20-yard pass attempt, but couldn't connect with his receiver. Just like Stroud, Mills had a rough start as well. It got to the point where the Texans just stuck with the run, which cost them another turnover in the first half. Despite the Texans coughing the ball up twice, they finished the half securing a touchdown, with the lead 7-3.

Houston's offense exploded in the second half, as they tacked on a couple more touchdowns and put the Pats out of their misery 20-9. Even though the Texans got the win, there was a lot of concern with Stroud's ability to go through his progressions and not hold onto the ball longer than he has to. All of his coaches had has back and stated that he will get better with time.

Mills finished 9 out of 14 for 99 yards and a touchdown

Mike Boone had 4 carries for 25 yards
