Team USAW takes care of business against Belgium to advance to the quarterfinals 87-74

Team USA women's basketball was in a dog fight with the underdogs in Belgium early in the first half of Olympic play. The Bigs for Team USA in Breanna Stewart, Aja Wilson, and Alyssa Thomas was getting it done on the boards, because the outside shooting was hard to come by. Stewie and Jewell Loyd helped Team USA break the game open and had a double-digit lead at one point in the second quarter However, turnovers were a costly factor with three minutes left in break. Team USA had five turnovers that turned into points for Belgium. At the end of break, Team USA had an eight-point lead.

Team USA came out in the second half a bit sloppy. They had eight turnovers in five minutes of play and had trouble finding the bottom of the net. Belgium took advantage and went on a 12-6 run to cut Team USA's lead to four late in the third. Team USA was clinging onto an eight-point lead heading into the fourth.

Willson, the Gold Mamba and the Plum Dog put the game on their backs. All three players scored crucial shots down the stretch to put Team USA in the lane of victory. Team USA went on to advance to the quarterfinals.
