Spence vs Crawford: Talk is not cheap

Imagine sitting at the dinner table to a delicious meal and one of the guests of honor isn’t happy with the food or meal preparation. That seems to be where we are with the negotiations between Errol Spence Jr and Terrence Crawford. It has been reported that both fighters want the fight, but still cannot come to an agreement on the details. I know fight fans are pessimistic when it comes to the thought of these two mega stars finally getting in the ring, however where the negotiations are at this point, we may be closer to this fight happening than it ever has been prior to this attempt.

Back in September of 2022 I wrote about the potential blockbuster fight with the idea of presenting the journey in chronological order. Since then, it’s been a lackluster of events with failed attempts one after another along with uninspiring bouts with the latest being Crawford against David Avanesyan an opponent fight fans were not excited about seeing challenge for the WBO welterweight championship. Spence on the other hand since he and Crawfords epic debate on who would win back in 2019 between the two has racked up names like Mikey Garcia, Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia, and Yourdenis Ugas, with Crawford most notable names being Amir Khan, Shawn Porter, and Kell Brook during the same span, the patience from fans have grown thinner than charmin toilet tissue.

As of late the most recent update for making this fight hangs in the balance of one of the sides approval of the details in the deal. Now those specifics have not been disclosed and in my experience when it comes to negotiations for megafights the less leaks of information to the public during talks typically work in favor of getting a deal done.

Reports have been stated that a July 22nd or July 29th date in Las Vegas is the target for this showdown. We still do not have an agreement in place, however seeing an actual date and location should be encouraging moving forward.
