The Los Angeles Rams punched their ticket to the postseason on Sunday with an impressive 41–34 win over the Detroit Lions, proving once again they can rise to the moment against a quality opponent. With the playoffs looming, this was the type of statement win that shows just how dangerous this team can be.
Matthew Stafford was more than up for the test against his former team. The veteran quarterback played poised and confident, throwing two touchdown passes to tight end Colby Parkinson, who continues to be a reliable red-zone weapon. Stafford distributed the ball well and delivered when the Rams needed it most, especially during key third-down situations.
The ground game was equally effective, as both running backs made their presence felt. Kyren Williams powered his way to two rushing touchdowns, finishing with 78 yards on the ground. Blake Corum added another rushing score of his own and chipped in 71 yards. Both backs eclipsing 70 yards speaks to the balance and physicality of the Rams’ offense, keeping Detroit’s defense on its heels all game.
Defensively, it was a tale of two units. The run defense rose to the challenge, holding Detroit’s elite duo of “Sonic and Knuckles” to just 70 rushing yards combined. However, the secondary struggled to contain the Lions’ passing attack. Former Ram Jared Goff threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort, while Amon-Ra St. Brown torched the Rams with 13 catches for 164 yards and two scores, consistently finding space all game.
At the end of the day, the Rams found a way to win against a strong team, exactly the kind of test you want with the postseason approaching. It was meaningful practice under pressure, and the results speak for themselves.
The Rams won’t have much time to celebrate, as a short week awaits. They head to Seattle on Thursday night in a must-win matchup that would clinch the division title and secure the NFC’s number one seed, a position they currently hold. With everything on the line, the Rams have a chance to take another massive step toward their ultimate post-season goal.
