The Rams edged out cross-town rival Chargers 23-22 on Saturday night at SoFi Stadium. Although it was just a preseason game, it offered plenty of intrigue.

Back-to-back weeks, quarterback Stetson Bennett took all the snaps and surely didn’t disappoint. Not only did he throw the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds to Tru Edwards, he also tossed two others, bringing his total to three passing touchdowns along with 324 passing yards. Bennett went 28 for 40 passes, and his best throw of the game occurred at the end of the third quarter—a 38-yard dart to WR Mario Williams.

For today’s game, Sean McVay stepped aside to let Aubrey Pleasant, the assistant head coach, take the reins. According to Rams reporter Stu Jackson, Pleasant “emphasized resilience and support for Bennett after a key interception, encouraged him to ‘reset, breathe’ and focus on the response,” which he obviously took to heart with a stellar end of game performance.

As for the Chargers, rookie wideout Tre Harris had himself a successful game with six receptions for 85 yards. The highlight came on a 35-yard grab from Trey Lance. Harris made the most of his opportunities, especially after both WR Quentin Johnston and WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith went down with injuries.

Even though it’s still preseason, tonight’s close scoring game was very entertaining. Both teams should feel great heading into the regular season when the games really matter.
