Queen Sugar will return September 7th

OWN has officially announced that Queen Sugar will be returning for season 6 on September 7th at 8 PM, ET/PT.



The Ava DuVernay created series will be returning with new and old faces.The announcement came with a one minute trailer showcasing what is coming up for the new season. Newlyweds Ralph played by Kofi Siriboe and Darla played by Bianca Lawson prepare to welcome a baby while dealing with financial struggles.



The character Nova played by Rutina Wesley reaches her breaking point while continuing to expose police and political corruption. Charley played by Dawn-Lyen Gardner explores political opportunities on a national level while her son Micah played by Nicholas Ashe learns how to navigate through college with growing confusion over a new relationship.



Tammy Townsend, who joined as a series regular in April will showcase her talent as the character Billie. Billie, who is the daughter of a beloved Bordelon family friend that returns to St. Josephine for the first time in 20 years to care for her ailing father.


Paula Jai Parker, Marquis Rodriguez, and McKinley Freeman will appear in recurring roles. DuVernay keeps her vision of hiring an all woman directing team. This upcoming season marks 42 female filmmakers the series has hired since 2016, 39 of whom are first-time television directors. Five of the filmmakers are making their television directing debut this season. Lisa France, Bertha Bay-Sa Pan, Carmen Marrón, Cierra Glaude, Keisha Rae Witherspoon, Marie Jamora, Shari L. Carpenter, Shaz Bennett, and Stephanie Turner were added to the team.
