Naomi Osaka streaks past Irina-Camelia Begu 7-5, 6-1 to get to the Gippsland Trophy Semifinals

New York- Naomi Osaka defeats Irina-Camelia Begu and advances to the semifinal.

Osaka was very aggressive with hiting her forehand shots and made Begu feel very uncomfortable with trying to guess her flaws. At one point in time, Osaka had a sizeable lead in the match, but slipped up with a couple of forced errors that got Begu back into the game. After a hard fought match in the first set, Osaka won it 7-5.

In the second set, Osaka poured it on and made sure that she did not slip up with unforced errors. Osaka dominated the entire set and defeated Begu 6-1. After the match, Osaka had this to say about Begu in the first set.

"My opponent today, she was really tricky for me," Osaka said in her on-court post-match interview. "I’ve never played her before, so just to be able to not have to play that 10-point tiebreaker, for me, I’m really relieved."
