The Orlando Magic delivered one of their most complete performances of the season when it mattered most, defeating the Charlotte Hornets 121-90 in their play-in matchup to secure the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Coming into the game, there was a heightened sense of urgency surrounding Orlando, with outside noise building around the team and its future. That urgency translated early, as the Magic came out aggressive on both ends of the floor. Orlando set the tone immediately, jumping out to a 38-16 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 68-37 by halftime. They dominated in the paint and used their physicality to overcome a favored Hornets team.
Paolo Banchero led the way with 25 points, continuing to show his ability to take control in high-pressure moments. His presence helped stabilize the offense while keeping the pace in Orlando’s favor throughout the game.
Defensively, the Magic were just as effective. Charlotte struggled to find any rhythm early, with LaMelo Ball held scoreless in the first quarter and limited to just two points in the first half. Orlando’s ability to disrupt possessions and control tempo played a major role in building and maintaining the lead. As a defensive team, the Magic leaned into that identity to hold Charlotte under 100 points.
The win not only secured Orlando’s spot in the playoffs but also demonstrated the team’s ability to respond when faced with pressure. With momentum now on their side, the Magic will turn their focus to a first-round matchup against Detroit as they look to carry this performance into the next stage.
