Who would have thought that LSU' road to another Final Four appearance would be stopped by Duke at the end of regulation, 87-85?
Prior to their match against Duke, a lot of people felt like Duke had a great chance with pulling an upset over LSU. For three quarters, Duke had corned the Lady Tigers and had them scratching their heads with trying to stop Toby Fournier in the painted area. Fournier was putting LSU in foul trouble and was eating good in the paint. She finished the game with 22 points, 9 dimes, and 1 board. Heading into the fourth, it looked very bleak for LSU as Duke went up double figures.
I guess it finally dawned on Flaujae Johnson that she needed to come alive in order for her team to make a comeback. It started with Johnson diving for a loss ball. That was the turning point mid-way in the fourth, as the Lady Tigers roared on a 12-4 run.
Things intensified with under a minute left in regulation. Duke had the opportunity to go up three but missed two crucial free throws. LSU scored with under 10 seconds left on the clock to go up one. Duke called a timeout to draw up a play. What happened afterwards was a crazy sequence. Ashlon Jackson hit a three-point shot that rattled around the rim before it went in to win the game. LSU's fans went silent, while the Blue Devils celebrated.
