Howie Long recognized for his impact in the community during Super Bowl 57 week

Hall of Famer and Fox NFL broadcaster Howie long became the 17th Recipient of the prestigious Pat Summerall Award during Super Bowl 57 week. He was recognized for his outstanding career both playing ,broadcasting, and also having a significant impact in the community. Summerall received the award in 2005 , when he was selected by Cheryl Deleonardis, President of Ocean 2 Ocean productions at her annual Legends for charity Luncheon . After a outstanding turnout and with the blessing of Pat & Wife Cheri, the award was Named after Pat and became a Super Bowl tradition .

In attendance was Howie’s Wife Diane, his three sons Chris ,Kyle & Howard Jr . Cheri Summerall, wife of the late Pat Summerall, as well as was as his colleagues from NFL sunday Fox crew Jimmie Johnson , Curt Menafie, Terry Bradshaw, Micheal Strahan, and Jay Glazier. Other former NFL players Like Micheal Vick , Charles Woodson, Jay Feeley, and Santonio Holmes were also in attendance to honor long.

Long spoke about how Pat was an inspiration to him, “He was the Voice of Football and the soundtrack of all Major Sporting events “ Long stated , while naming a few accolades of The late Summerall like covering 16 super bowls (More than anyone ) , 21 Us opens , 27 Masters tournaments .

A Special guest of the evening was Owen Church and his father Brian , a 17 year old boy that Howie had the pleasure of meeting at St.Jude hospital 13 years ago. When Owen was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic Leukemia, Owen spoke about the the first time he met Howie Long at St. jude hospital when he was five years old during the shoot of a commercial for NFL on Fox . Owen is an athlete in his own right, as he participates in various cross country events.

To cap the night off there was a Live auction at the Legends for charity event which raised well over 280k in a matter of minutes for St Jude’s hospital . Since 2006 the event has raised roughly over 10 million dollars . Helping countless amounts of children across the Country . The goal is to finding cures and saving lives of children . St Jude’s hospital does not charge parents for treatment , travel , housing or food -So they can focus on helping their child live .
