Georgia upset by Alabama 27-24
In the most anticipated match-up between the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide for a chance to be in the National Playoffs, the stakes were high. The Bulldogs came into this game riding a 29-win streak and was on the verge of breaking NCAA history with a win. However, they had a familiar foe that wanted to play spoiler and shake up the playoff matchups with a potential victory.
Georgia came out the game and scored a touchdown in four-minute span. You would think that the Bulldogs would run all over the Crimson Tide the way that they opened up the game, but that was not the case. Bama did not only the Bulldogs' running attack to be a factor in the first half. Georgia finished the half with only 51 yards on the ground and was down 17-7.
The Bulldogs wanted to be a bit more balance going into the second half and get their running attack going. Things were a bit grim for the Bulldogs as they struggled to find any type of rhythm and only scored a field goal in the third quarter. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs were down 20-10 and need a perfect quarter by Carson Beck to pull out the W. Beck told the world to hold my beer and took it upon himself to score a one-yard touchdown at the 10-minute mark to cut Bama's lead to a field goal.
Alabama answered the touchdown, with one of their own. Once again, all of the pressure was on Beck to make plays down the stretch. With help of a 15-yard penalty, Beck marched his team to the one-yard line. One a fourth and goal, GA punched the ball in the endzone to once again, make it a field goal game. GA needed a miracle to happen with stopping Bama from getting a first down, but their goal of another National Championship run was shattered as time expired. Beck finished 21 out of 29 for 243 yards.
