Clippers will honor Jerry West throughout the season
The LA Clippers will honor basketball legend Jerry West with a “JW” court decal and a memorial seat at Intuit Dome throughout the 2024-25 season. West served as an Executive Board Member and Consultant for the franchise from 2017 until his passing on June 12, 2024, at the age of 86.
“Jerry was a lifelong learner and teacher who inspired all of us with his intellect, enthusiasm and love for the game,” said Clippers Chairman Steve Ballmer. “He gave his whole heart to the NBA. We think about him, and we miss him every day.” The Clippers will debut the decal and memorial, as well as a celebration of life video for West at tomorrow’s regular-season opener against the Phoenix Suns at Intuit Dome.
West’s impact as Executive Board Member & Consultant was immediately felt. He joined the organization on 6/19/2017. During his tenure, the LAC never had a losing season…and appeared in their first Western Conference Finals in franchise history in 2021. On October 13, West became the first three-time inductee to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame when he was inducted as a contributor, recognizing his front office contributions to the Clippers, Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers.
West captured an NBA Championship in 1972 and was named to the NBA’s 35th Anniversary Team, selected as one of the 50th Greatest Players in NBA History and named to the league's 75th Anniversary Team.
