Clemson true freshman Marquise Henderson has been dismissed from the program, a team spokesman confirmed Thursday. The in-state recruit, who enrolled in January, left without playing a game. Clemson declined to provide details about the dismissal. Henderson, a top-ranked athlete from Belton-Honea Path, is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal but may not be eligible to enroll in 2025 due to portal rules.
He had an outstanding high school career. A dazzling playmaker who played running back, wide receiver and returner, Henderson set the school’s all-time rushing record, averaged 11 yards per carry and had just under 8,000 career all-purpose yards in four seasons. Henderson (5-foot-10, 170 pounds) ranks as the No. 4 players in South Carolina and the No. 182 recruits nationally per the 247Sports Composite. Despite early promise, injuries limited his spring practices.
Neither Clemson nor coach Dabo Swinney disclosed any prior disciplinary actions before his dismissal. Henderson's immediate focus will likely be on finding a new program where he can continue his football career. He could explore options at other Division I schools that might be willing to take a chance on his talent, or he might consider transferring to a junior college to maintain his eligibility and showcase his skills. Additionally, he could use this time to fully recover from any lingering injuries and prepare for a strong return to the field.
