Will Rams QB Stetson Bennett be one to make the team or will he be cut if the Rams decide to only carry two quarterbacks on their active roster? Early OTAs and training camp projections had him excluded, but with QB1 Matthew Stafford’s recent back injury flare-up and Bennett’s strong performance in the Rams' first pre-season game defeating Dallas 31-21, projections are changing in his favor.
After practice on Thursday, August 13th, Rams Offensive Coordinator Mike LaFleur said, “I'm happy for what he did for the most part (in the Dallas game). The ball went where it was supposed to. He played with great timing and anticipation."
Bennett's football journey has been marked by overcoming adversity. Despite a strong high school career at Pierce County in Georgia, he was overlooked by many colleges due to his size: 5’11” and 190lbs. He joined the Georgia Bulldogs as a walk-on, fell as low as fifth string, and was criticized by the media and fans. Yet, he blocked out negativity and wound up leading his team to two back-to-back College Football Playoff National Championship titles. After being drafted by the Rams in 2023, he stepped away from football for mental health reasons. Upon returning, he showed a renewed purpose and love for the game.
Bennett’s journey is an example of perseverance and beating the odds even when stacked against you. He is the ultimate underdog yet always seems to turn the tables and come out on top. And on Tuesday, August 26th 2025, NFL roster cutdown day, we will see if Bennett proves all of the naysayers wrong, again.
