Who would have ever thought that the 49ers and all of their injuries that they had suffered this season would be one of three teams fighting for the division? San Fran would play the Chicago Bears with everybody watching. If you were a Bears fan, you were rooting for the Bears to win to stay in contention for a NO1 seed and if you were a 9ers' fan, you were rooting for the 49ers to get the win to stay ahead of the Rams for a chance at the NO1 seed. What more could you ask for with the stakes being so high.
Brock Purdy started his night throwing a pick 6 to the Bears on his opening drive. After the pick, Purdy brushed off everything off and was dialed in. The 9ers went on a pinball scoring clinic, as' they finished the half with 28 points and Christian McCaffrey was on a roll, racing for 120 yards in two quarters.
Coming out of the locker room and a touchdown lead, the 9ers wanted to limit Chicago's big plays down the field and not allow Caleb Williams to make plays with his legs. Just like the first half, the banged-up defense had no answer with forcing Williams to stay in the pocket or throwing bombs down the field. It felt like whoever scored last was going to win the game.
Let's take it to the fourth quarter, with under six minutes left, the 9ers' defense stopped the Bears from scoring a touchdown and forced them to kick a field goal. With forcing a field goal, the 9ers could either tie or retake the lead with plenty of time on the clock. It was the Purdy and McCaffrey show as they calmly went down the field and put their team in position for a potential score. Jauan Jennings finished off the drive with a 13-yard touchdown catch to put the game on ice.
Purdy finished 24/33 for 303 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 pick
CMC finished with 23 touches for 140 yards
