A potential Aaron Donald comeback may be in the works

As the Los Angeles Rams wrapped up practice much of the conversation surrounding the team wasn’t about who was on the practice field — but who could potentially be returning to it.

Head coach Sean McVay provided another update on Aaron Donald, confirming the former Rams defensive tackle recently went through a workout at the team’s facility as he continues to evaluate whether he wants to return to football.

“Worked out great,” McVay said. “You know, it was really more for him to kind of just continue to do the things that I've kind of shared with you guys. And so, he looked great and he still continued to go through his process. No news, no new news on that front.”

Donald, who retired following the 2023 season after 10 years with the Rams, participated in individual-style work that included wearing a helmet and hitting sleds.

McVay stressed that the workout should not be interpreted as confirmation Donald is coming back.

“He's feeling good, but, uh, we're not to where we are able to say whether or not he is or isn't ready to do it,” McVay said. “But, um, he's doing great and he looked outstanding, as I think all of us would expect.”

Donald has remained in close communication with McVay throughout the process, with the Rams coach saying the two talk “probably every day.”

But McVay also made it clear that this decision belongs entirely to Donald.

“If he wants to do it, you know, we'd be excited about the possibility,” McVay said. “And I think it's really important to acknowledge that if he doesn't, this guy gave this organization everything he had for ten years.”

For now, the Rams are moving forward with the players already in the building.

“You focus on the guys that we do have,” McVay said. “And then if Aaron is a part of it, it's obviously going to add value to our group, which is a positive.”
